Ok can somebody PLEASE give me a logical explanation as to why I can't have chicken breast and broccoli at least once a day on this stupid pre-op diet???? (seriously, I want an explanation) I don't get it! This is torture and I don't like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I am now going through withdraw. I hope it gets better. My stomach is hungry, but it's not terrible. My head hunger is terrible. I just want to EEEEAAATT! Tonight my husband has to work so I'll be all alone here, just me, my rumbling tummy and my famished brain. UGH!
On a more positive note, the scale has moved down 4 pounds. So that's good.

The only explaination I got for the liquid diet (and mine was protein shakes, no broth or jello or anything other than a few low carb veggies) was that they want you to shrink your liver because it sits on top of the stomach, and doing this makes the surgery easier and safer. That was a good enough explaination for me. It terrified me enough to not cheat a lick even though I was in HELL!
I got banded Monday, and my pre-op diet consisted of 5 protein shakes a day, and one "lean and green" meal - lean meat and green veggies. I have no idea why other doctor's rules would be different.
I understand the liver shrinking thing, but chicken breast doesn't contain carbs and neither does green veggies so why can't I have some! LOL, I'll get over it. Tomorrow will be better, I have to work all night so maybe my mind will be more occupied.
You can do this!! :-) I didn't have to do a pre-op diet like you did but my husband did and it was tough to watch him. He did have hot & sour soup as a "cheat" because he had to do it for three weeks before surgery. He said it was the best tasting soup ever. LOL
When you want to eat.. just think about the scale!! The weight will be dropping off for awhile.. I know it is hard, but just tell yourself that it isn't a choice, you HAVE to do it.
I don't have an explanation because the pre-op diet the practice gave me allows 3oz. of fat free chicken, turkey or ham at lunch and dinner instead of a protein shake. It also allows unlimited broccoli, cucumbers, dill pickles, and celery as long as they are plain.
I just had my pre-op appointment today and they recommend the diet be high protein, low carb to deplete the liver's glycogen stores.
I'm amazed at how vastly different the pre and post op restrictions can be, even in the same region. Hang in there! You're almost there!
I won't even mention my pre-op diet because it was quite liberal compared to most. Just hang in there; you can do this!
Hi Just found you...I had tuna salds on my preop...the shakes started to make me sick...blah. 4 lbs..a.wesome
