Alright so I survived my fill. The doctor walked in and following him was a student. I laid down and the student doctor began to put gloves on and stuff. I looked up at my docter and said, "is he doing it?" and he said yes. OMG! I was already freaked out but now I was scared to death! My hands were sweating and I was gripping the sides of the table. My doctor picked up my hand and held it while student boy proceeded to stick me 3 to 4 times. It didn't really hurt all that much. My skin around my incision is kind of numb still from surgery so that helped. He didn't end up getting the job done, so my doctor gloved up and stuck me. He was a lot more aggressive in feeling around while the needle was in and it felt super weird. Like I had plastic toys in my belly clanking around. It was crazy but he got it with that one stick. He gave me 3 cc's. I got up and I sipped on some water. No problems. I'm supposed to be on liquids for a day or two. I'm sick of my protein powder so I bought some Atkins shakes. I also got a few Cambell's Soup at Hand. Creamy chicken and tomato. I have to work tonight so I figured that would be the easiest thing. I felt hungry when I got home so I had a shake. I was kind of disappointed that I was already hungry. But I know this is a process and its going to take time to get it right. I shouldn't take that as a sign that I'm not going to feel anything from this 3 cc's. My stomach is empty and so is my little pouch...so why wouldn't I feel hungry right?? Anyway, my doctor said I can come back in 2 weeks if I need to.

I would have freaked if I had a student on my first fill. Did you get numbed before hand? Well, I'm glad you have the chance to get more of a fill in case this doesn't work for you...but you should feel a difference soon!
Hey Ashli -
Say, you did good! Take things easy for a few days, diet-wise. Also, sometimes the fill doesn't kick in right away, so if you don't feel restriction just yet, just wait a few days .... you will! The actual fill really doesn't hurt, for me it was the thought of that needle (I hate needles). Now it just feels like when you are going to have blood drawn. Dr. Price is great at hitting the port on the first try. Also, see where you lost about 2 lbs. You are off to a really great start. Continue on and you will be so happy with your results.
yay for you getting a fill. i would have been wary about the student, too. today i had two student phlebotomists tearing at my kids arms. i didn't find out they were students til it was after the fact. i was pissed. at least it worked out for you though and that's what matters. =)
You did great! I would have asked for the student discount! lol
My NP is new so basically she is a student when it comes to doing fills. In six fills she hasn't once been able to get it without help, but she can hit every other type of port but the realize one.
It doesn't bother me since it is pretty easy and she will only poke me twice before asking for help. However, they also asked me the first time if it was ok that she did it. If I wanted the doc or PA to do it then they would have done that.
You made it! Yay!
whew...i would have took one look at the student and said "i'm sorry but HELLLL NOOOO!!!" lol
I would NOT have let that kid poke me more than twice...you're too good :) I love atkins shakes...way better than the stuff you mix up yourself. Hang in there :)
YAHOO! First fill. check.
That's right. Sometimes it feels like you haven't even had a fill and then 7 days later comes the restriction. I had to wait a month for the first one and he gave me 4ccs. No restriction. Then 4 weeks later I went back and got 1cc and that did the trick. I stayed that way for 1 1/2 years. Now I only have 3-4cc and can eat a whole lot more, but I'm also exercising a lot more.
I LIVED on Campbell's soup at hand and the creamy chicken was my fave. I took those to work all the time and I still drink the Atkins shakes. I've never gotten tired of them. The mocha latte and cafe caramel are my favorites.
Sounds like you are on your way. Congrats!
Ooh boy! That's crazy that a student came in to do your 1st fill!? Well at least your done with your 1st one.. :0) Hope you "feel" it a little bit as the days go on..
Congrats....hope you get spome restritction
