Things That Make You Go Hmmmmmm...

Quick question. How many calories do you aim to comsume on a daily basis? I've used those calculators online but it tells me I should eat at least 2080 (based on my current weight/age/height) for "extreme weight loss". Does that sound right? It sounds like a lot if you're wanting to loose weight. I also read that consuming less than 1500 is not good for you. I've been aiming for 1200 but now I'm thinking I should up it a little bit. What do you guys think?? I'm not really loosing much as of right now. I've been getting 1200-1500 cals a day which is way less than pre band but I've just been juggling the same 4 pounds since surgery. I'm between 265 and 261. So, since surgery, almost a month ago, I've only lost between 3-7 pounds. I'm not frustrated YET. I'm excited for my fill on Wednesday! So tell me your daily calorie goal..

Ashli when you find the answer to this pesky question please let me know. I am getting between 900 to 1000 cals a day and I have been juggling around the same 4lb for 2 weeks now. I try having less then having more and the scales just keep flickering up and down so I am at my wits end. I have no restriction so could quite easily eat LOTS more which makes it even harder to deal with the scales. Seriously good luck with this and share any tips x

I average 1200 - 1300 and I walk for 30 minutes every day. I don't think you are eating enough. I bet your weight loss would pick up if you ate a bit more. Talk to your fill doc about it.

I usually eat around 1250 cal/day. I started running 5 weeks ago and on the days that I run I eat around 1500 calories. If you don't eat enough, your body holds onto everything and it makes weight loss impossible. If you eat too much obviously you won't lose either. If you are active then a good rule of thumb is to aim for 1200-1400 calories per day for weight loss. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids too.

I have done those online calculators too and they said I should have 1800 calories a day to reach a 2 pound a week loss. Even though my first nut told me a similar thing my NP and current nut freaked when I told them that. According to them most people do a 900-1200 calorie diet. However, for me I found that that was too low for me and I stopped losing and had little energy. I now get 1200-1400 calories a day.

I also use a body bugg type device to track what calories I burn and 1800 would have been too much (so they were right). I burn between 2300 calories (with no activity) and 3000 (heavy duty exercise), but on average I burn about 2500 calories with moderate activity. So my 1400 calorie diet is perfect for me.

Hi Ashli - Stick to the 1200 - 1500 range, no more than that. But keep up the exercise and drink the water. I take in 1200 cal approximately, but I'm older, I do walk 3 miles a day or 45 minutes on the elliptical. Keep moving. Keep us posted. You are doing fine.

Okay - no band here but I wanted to say those calculators are just dumb. Ha! I'm supposed to eat something like 2500 a day to lose. WHAT? NOT gonna happen. I stick to 1200 and usually end with under that by the time I exercise and the weight comes off slowly. Good luck.

Ashli - I was thinking, once you get a good restriction going on with the band, you won't be eating in the 2000 cal range. Good luck with your next fill. Keep plugging away, the weight will begin to drop and stay off. Run this by Thelma as well. 1200-1500 is a good range though.
